Extreme Onsen: Climb Mt. Adatara and Soak in Wild Outdoor Hot Springs

  • ADVENTURE
Target age
Six years old and above
Required time
About 3 hours

The largest single source of hot spring water in Japan gushes into a river in the mountains, creating an open-air hot spring bath in the vast wilderness. Numajiri Motoyu, the hot spring source, is located in the middle of Mt. Adatara (about 1,300 meters above sea level). Visitors can hike up the mountains accompanied by a guide and see the Shiraito Falls and ridges of Mt. Adatara before soaking in the waters of Japan’s most ‘extreme’ hot spring river.
