The Adatara Nature Center plans and develops programs for experiencing nature, such as the ‘Fukushima Active Volcanoes & Moutain Trail Journey’ at the Bandai-Asahi National Park. These programs offer visitors the opportunity to see, touch, and feel the stories related to the unique volcanoes of this area.

In addition to outdoor activities, the center is developing programs of experiences for visitors to get to know the area’s folk culture and connection with nature, covering topics such as “underground water and sake,” “soil and ceramics,” and “hot spring sources and hot spring towns”.

Dake Onsen, where the Adatara Nature Center is located, is a hot spring area with a history of over 1,200 years. The onsen town used to stand where today is a mountain lodge called ‘Kurogane-Goya’, but it was swept away in a landslide in 1824 and got buried under the earth and sand. Although the hot spring town was once destroyed, visitors can still soak in the hot spring water from the same source, thanks to a hot spring withdrawal project using a hot spring gutter undertaken by the Nihonmatsu clan.

To preserve our heritage for the next generations, we strive to cherish and share our roots, and hope that as many people as possible will enjoy these stories and nature experiences.
